High-resolution SAR image enables precise surface observation without being affected by weather conditions and sun altitudes. In this project, changes in the area of Iceberg A-68 are monitored by using Sentinel-1 SAR images.
Here is how the area of the iceberg is calculated using SAR images. First, the polygon for the iceberg is digitized from the SAR image through visual inspection. And then the area of the iceberg is figured out by calculating the area of the polygon.
Digitizing iceberg through visual inspection may involve the analyst’s opinion, which may lead to inaccuracies in calculating the iceberg area. In this project, at least two SAR image analysists calculate the area after checking the polygon.
